Day 6: Cutting down our tree

The note in the envelope (of our advent calendar) said "let's go to Kananaskis to cut down the perfect Christmas tree".  So off we went, with our warm winter gear, a saw and rope, and a thermos full of hot carob.  I had always pictured cutting down a tree from a tree farm, or something like it, but here, once you get your 5$ permit, you are free to hike into the woods pretty much anywhere in the forest (within a certain boundary) and cut down up to 3 trees.  It was a great family activity, and very special to cut down our own tree!

Enjoying some hot carob on a cold day...mmm...

A perfect little 'charlie brown' tree!

And a small one for the kids

And a third one for Erik's office
